Put your memorabilia in displays. Don't stuff them in a shoebox in the attic!!
Put your memorabilia in displays. Don’t stuff them in a shoebox in the attic!!

This ticket is an original piece of metal memorabilia. It is framed in a magnetic display. The photos show some reflection. Sorry about that, ladies and gents!

Of the ‘Big 4’ thrash metal bands, Slayer is the one I know the least. I don’t know why really, it is probably a coincidence. Cause I gotta tell you, when I put on ‘Reign in blood’ today, 27 years on, and hear the drizzle and thunder of ‘Raining blood’ I can understand what the fuzz is all about!

The album ‘Reign in blood’ itself was Slayers third album, and was released just a week after the death of Metallica bassist Cliff Burton. In many ways this week of 1986 produced the low- and high points of thrash metal, which is quite bizarre when you think of it. The album is regarded one of the peaks in metal history, and will forever secure Slayer their place in thrash metal heaven (or do metallers prefer hell? I am not sure how that stuff work, LOL!)

Show info: The ticket is for the Essen, Germany show on April 24th, 1987. You gotta remember, this was early in Slayers career, and ‘Reign in blood’ was their first record on a major label (Def Jam, Rick Rubin). This means they went bigger, more expensive and bloodier on this tour 🙂 . The european leg of the tour was with fellow californians ‘Malice’ as support act, and Essen was their first stop in Germany.

Ticket info: Another Shooter and Klein ticket, I have shown you 2 of those earlier; here and here. This is a big ticket, approx 7 x 14 cm. The stub is removed, since it was actually used at the show, but it’s in VERY good condition when you consider the fact it was actually in the concert venue that night 26 years ago! It was bought from the concert goer himself in 2012.

What is it worth?: This ticket is really great for display. As a collectible it’s basically for fans only since this is recent metal history, so I’d say somewhere between 20-50 USD?

Venue info and tour poster: No gig-poster found. If you have a photo of it, give me a hint! Grugahalle in Essen, Germany, indoor arena, concert capasity 7 800.

Slayer tour pass from 1987!

Video / links from the gig: This video is from Canada a couple of months earlier, and shows pretty much what the good people of Essen also got if they paid up their hard earned Deutche Marks and got themselves to the venue on time this spring friday.

Tour Tee, Reign in Pain tour of 1987

The band: (from Wikipedia) Slayer is an American thrash metal band formed in Huntington Park, California in 1981 by guitarist, Kerry King and drummer, Dave Lombardo. Slayer rose to mainstream fame with their 1986 release, Reign in Blood, and is credited as one of the “Big Four” thrash metal acts, along with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. Slayer’s sales are in the estimated high 20 millions, although they have never publicly announced their sales worldwide. However, between the years 1991 (the start of the SoundScan era), and 2004, Slayer has sold in excess of 3.5 million albums in the U.S.

Slayer’s musical traits involve fast tremolo picking, double bass drumming, and shouted vocals. Hanneman, King, and bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, contribute to the band’s lyrics. King and Hanneman create and arrange the music with additional arrangement from drummer Dave Lombardo and sometimes Araya. The band’s lyrics and album art, which cover topics such as serial killers, necrophilia, Satanism, religion, anti-religion, and warfare, have generated album bans, delays, lawsuits and strong criticism from religious groups and the public. Their music has proved to be highly influential, often being cited by countless bands as influence musically, visually, and lyrically.
Since their debut album in 1983, the band has released two live albums, one box set, six videos, two extended plays, and eleven studio albums, four of which have received gold certification in the United States. The band has received five Grammy nominations, winning two of them; one in 2007 for the song “Eyes of the Insane”, and one in 2008 for the song “Final Six” (both from 2006’s Christ Illusion). Slayer has played music festivals worldwide, including Unholy Alliance, Download, and Ozzfest. Slayer is currently writing a new studio album, which is due for release in 2013.
